Case study project summary.

The UCH Dialysis Center Solar project at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan was delivered by SAO Energy in partnership with Oluwarotimi Akeredolu Foundation.

This state-of-the-art hybrid solar installation (Grid and off-grid) marks the largest in the teaching hospital, designed to provide stable, clean, and reliable energy to critical sections, including the Hemodialysis center, staff areas, and the surrounding community at large.

In January 2023, the solar project took off as part of SAO Energy’s initiative to offer sustainable energy solutions to healthcare facilities. After an intense two-weeks of material deployment, installation and testing, UCH Ibadan now boasts of a successful hybrid solar project to power its critical functions.

Project’s Electrical Specification

  • Eighty 450 Wp monocrystalline solar panels.
  • Four 15KW Felicity Lithium batteries.
  • Three 15KW Smart Deye hybrid solar inverters.
  • Solar panel, inverter accessories.
  • Cabling, mounting accessories.

Technical specification:

The solar PV array was designed to generate 36,000Wp at peak irradiance to furnish the smart inverters and the lithium batteries. Our design was structured to allow the system to operate a dual mode, i.e, excess power generated by the panels is channelled to the load while the battery receives its rated power for optimal charging.

The lithium batteries are communicated in parallel to produce 60KWh of stable power with an up-time of 10 hrs on full load and 15 hrs on light load.

Impact on the Community

Improved healthcare services: Patients can receive uninterrupted dialysis treatment without the risk of power outages.

Enhanced patient care and safety: Reliability of the medical equipment to carry out procedures and emergency services without power cuts.

Environmental benefits: The solar installation helps the healthcare facility reduce its carbon footprint thereby offsetting the need for fossil fuels, which produce greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change.

Reduced healthcare cost: The facility can ensure long-term cost savings, which can be used to improve patient care or expand healthcare services.
