How Mini Grids Are Powering Growth and Development

October 23, 2025

Millions of people still live in energy poverty. That means clinics shut down after dark, farmers lose harvests to spoilage, and students study by candlelight. SAO Energy is bridging that gap with clean, distributed power.

Our solar mini-grids and hybrid systems are enabling critical infrastructure, improving service delivery, and strengthening the local economy in health, education, and local enterprise.

We are also building stronger healthcare systems. For instance, in Omolege, Ondo State, SAO Energy installed a solar mini-grid that now powers the community’s Primary Health Center round the clock. Before the installation of electricity, childbirths often occurred at night by lantern light. Vaccines expired due to a lack of refrigeration.

Now, over 10,000 residents access reliable healthcare. The facility runs refrigerators for vaccine storage, operates delivery equipment safely at night, and provides emergency care without interruption.

From power cuts to digital classrooms, we have created real access for students daily with the installation of solar systems for Digital Literacy Centers. Each center runs on about 10 hours of battery backup and is equipped with computers containing learning applications.

For the first time, these students have access to e-learning tools, digital libraries, and virtual labs. Teachers now use projectors and computers seamlessly, and classes continue without the need for generators, saving money that can be reinvested in learning materials and teacher support.

In Ondo State, SAO Energy’s solar mini-grid now powers many small businesses. Before solar, most relied on fuel generators that cost up to one day’s earnings just to stay open. Today, businesses run longer hours and save up to 60% on energy costs. Local cold rooms store perishable goods for longer, productive use of equipment operates past sunset, and families earn more stable incomes.

Every SAO Energy project contributes to a larger vision: universal access to clean, sustainable power. Our solar mini-grids have already improved living standards for over 25,000 residents. Each installation means fewer emissions and reduced fuel dependency, creating jobs in installation, maintenance, and operations, as well as stronger infrastructure for education, healthcare, and business.

Our mission is clear: to build an energy-security powered by innovation, inclusion, and impact.
