135kW Solar Electrification with Battery Storage of 45 BHCs and 135 Households Across 3 LGAs in Ondo State

Location

Ondo State (Akoko North-East, Akure North and Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo LGAs)

Date

February 2025

Products used for this project

Hybrid inverter, Lithium battery, Monocrystalline solar panels

Description:

One common issue in the Nigerian health sector, homes, and businesses is the lack of electricity. Something many rural parts of Ondo have also had to endure. However, SAO, in collaboration with EDP, a global leader in energy transition, has changed the story of three local governments in Ondo by successfully installing a 135kW solar power system that powers 45 health centers and connects 135 households and small businesses (HH/SMEs) through individual metered connections.

Each BHC now runs entirely on solar energy and has centrifuges for faster and more accurate medical diagnosis. Beyond healthcare, homes and businesses in the area now have daily, clean, and steady electricity. This recent development strengthens healthcare delivery at the primary level, supports economic activity, and energy inclusion across the localities.

Products Used for this Project:

Solar Panels: 270 units of 500Wp monocrystalline panels.

Inverters: 45 units of 6.2kVA hybrid inverters.

Batteries: 45 units of 5kWh lithium-ion batteries.
